KAERI: Building a Korean Skincare Brand from the Ground Up
It started as an idea: a Korean skincare webshop and physical store. Rather than refining an existing brand, we built the business positioning, visual identity and complete digital system from the ground up — all the way to launch.
KAERI started with a strong business idea and almost everything else still waiting to be built.
The goal was to bring Korean skincare to market through a brand that felt premium without becoming distant, intimidating or inaccessible. However, this was never going to be just a visual identity project.
From positioning and brand design to photography, inventory management, retail operations and team preparation, we helped build the system around KAERI from the ground up.
As a result, this skincare brand case study is not simply about creating a new look. It is about turning an idea into a brand that could actually operate in the real world.
The objective was not simply to make KAERI look ready for launch. It had to be ready to operate.
More Than Another Store Selling Korean Skincare
KAERI was created with a clear ambition. Korean skincare should not feel like a collection of disconnected imported products.
Instead, the founders wanted to build a recognizable retail brand with a strong professional foundation, a premium customer experience and a clear identity of its own.
A broad product range from day one
The initial assortment made the project unusually complex. KAERI launched with more than 50 skincare brands, including names such as Anua, Beauty of Joseon and Purito.
On one hand, this created major commercial potential. On the other hand, it meant the systems behind the brand had to work reliably from the first day of operation.
We Weren’t Fixing an Existing Brand. We Were Building the Foundation.
There was no established identity, mature operational system or existing team culture to refine.
Therefore, the brand had to be built before it could be launched. Strategy, design, logistics and communication all had to develop together.
Stand Out in a Crowded Category
Beauty is an intensely visual market. Therefore, KAERI needed a distinctive identity that communicated quality and trust without falling into generic beauty-brand conventions.
Control a Complex Product Range
More than 50 brands, a large product assortment and a physical retail location required structured inventory and warehouse logic before the doors could open.
Prepare a Brand-New Team
At the same time, the people representing KAERI had to understand how the brand communicates, how customers should be approached and what kind of experience the brand promises.
Building the Market Position
The first major decision was positioning.
How could KAERI create a premium skincare retail experience without making the brand feel exclusive only to a small, high-spending audience?
Premium experience, accessible positioning
From there, the strategic direction became clear: premium experience at an accessible price point.
We defined the market position, established the core communication principles and aligned the premium appearance of the brand with the commercial realities of the business.
As a result, every later decision had a clearer framework.
KAERI was not going to become simply another place where Korean skincare products could be purchased. Instead, it needed to operate as a recognizable brand in its own right.
Creating the Brand Identity
In skincare, visual presentation has a direct impact on trust. Because of this, the identity had to do more than decorate the business.
It needed to translate KAERI’s positioning into a visual language that customers could recognize immediately.
Building a system, not just a logo
We developed the brand identity, established the key visual principles, created the image direction and built a clear visual hierarchy.
In addition, the system had to work across physical retail, digital communication, social media and future campaigns.
The brand voice and visual language were therefore developed together rather than treated as separate exercises.
A clean, modern and premium identity designed to remain flexible as KAERI grows.
Building an Original Visual Library
Rather than relying on generic stock imagery, we created a dedicated visual world for KAERI.
Product, model and lifestyle photography
Our team organized and produced the brand photography across three main formats:
- studio product photography,
- professional model photography,
- lifestyle imagery.
More importantly, these images were not created for one temporary campaign.
Instead, the photography was planned as a reusable brand asset library for e-commerce, advertising, social media and ongoing communication.
Consequently, photography became part of the identity system rather than an afterthought.
Designing the Inventory and Warehouse System
With more than 50 brands and a substantial launch inventory, operations were one of the most important parts of the project.
After all, a strong visual identity means very little if products cannot be tracked accurately or the retail team cannot rely on the inventory behind them.
Building the structure around Juta
We built the inventory framework around the Juta system and developed the logic required to manage the product range.
- We structured the inventory system.
- We developed the warehouse management logic.
- We organized the product records.
- We connected commercial requirements with day-to-day operations.
As a result, KAERI had a much more stable operational foundation for launch and the first stage of growth.
Turning the Brand Into a Working Retail Operation
Because KAERI was new, there was no legacy system to repair. The operating model could therefore be designed correctly from the beginning.
Connecting the daily processes
We created the logical framework for day-to-day operation and helped connect inventory, checkout and warehouse processes.
The aim was simple: once customers started walking through the door, the business should not depend on improvisation.
Instead, the brand needed an operational structure that was manageable, repeatable and capable of supporting the customer experience promised by the visual identity.
Ultimately, the operational system had to make the brand easier to run—not more complicated.
Preparing the Team to Represent the Brand
A physical retail brand is experienced through people as much as through graphics, packaging or interior design.
Therefore, KAERI’s team also had to become part of the brand system.
Turning communication into a repeatable framework
Because the team was new, we had the opportunity to establish the communication approach from the beginning.
- We developed communication principles aligned with the brand.
- We standardized the tone of customer interaction.
- We trained the retail team to represent KAERI consistently.
In our view, communication should not depend entirely on instinct. Instead, it can be turned into a system that gives the team a clear framework while still allowing conversations to feel natural.
As a result, the in-store experience could reinforce the same brand values customers encountered elsewhere.
Bringing the Brand Into Physical Retail
KAERI was never intended to exist only online. Physical retail was part of the plan from the beginning.
The Allee Shopping Center launch
The project reached a major milestone on December 1, 2025, when the KAERI store opened in Allee Shopping Center.
At this stage, our role was to help carry the brand principles into the physical environment while keeping the commercial and visual experience aligned.
Consequently, the store was not treated as a separate project from the digital brand.
Instead, it became a physical extension of the same KAERI identity.
Designing the Brand for Short-Form Content
Short-form video was considered from the beginning rather than added after launch.
Creating for TikTok and Reels from the start
We developed visual material with formats such as TikTok and Reels in mind.
As a result, the brand could communicate through movement, product detail, people and lifestyle—not only through static graphics.
In addition, this approach gave KAERI a more contemporary content foundation and helped translate the identity into channels where modern skincare discovery increasingly happens.
Why We Call This 360° Brand Management
The KAERI project went far beyond creating a logo or a set of campaign assets.
Instead, positioning, visual identity, photography, inventory, operations, team communication, retail and content all had to move in the same direction.
Every part of the business had to connect
For example, the premium positioning influenced the visual identity. The identity influenced photography and communication. At the same time, inventory and operational systems had to support the customer experience promised by the brand.
Ultimately, that connection is where brand management starts creating practical business value.
From Business Idea to an Operating Retail Brand
By the end of the project, KAERI had much more than a new visual identity.
The brand launched with clear positioning, a distinctive visual system, operational infrastructure and a prepared retail team.
Verified project outcomes
Rather than presenting estimated or unverified performance figures, the results below focus on concrete project milestones.
A broad multi-brand assortment structured for launch.
KAERI opened its store in Allee Shopping Center.
Inventory and warehouse management logic built around the system.
Strategy, creative, operations, people and retail developed as one connected system.
A Brand Needs More Than a Strong Launch
By the end of the project, KAERI had more than a recognizable visual identity.
It had a clear market position, a scalable visual system, original brand photography, structured inventory management, defined operational processes and a team prepared to represent the brand in person.
One connected business system
This project reflects how we approach complex brand launches.
Instead of treating strategy, design, operations and marketing as separate deliverables, we connect them wherever the business requires them to work together.
In other words, we do not build isolated assets. We build the system around the brand.
Ultimately, the difference between a strong idea and a viable brand is often everything that has to work behind the scenes.
